A Technology Boom in Cambodia?
When you think technology, you might not think of Cambodia. But this might very well change in the future. iPhone 4 Antenna Problem Raises Question: When Should One Buy Bleeding Edge Tech?
People have to understand that new technology, even with the best of companies can be riddled with bugs. People that are just sick over their iPhone 4 having reception problems obviously are not the type of people that should be buying the latest and greatest gear. I have a friend who is one of the greatest technical minds I’ve ever known. His philosophy is that no matter the product, always wait at least 6 months or until rev. 2 comes out before buying. After all, when it comes down to it, human beings still create these products despite them being made by machines today. And we all know people do make mistakes That is sound advise.
Where to find English books in Thailand?
When I first came to Thailand, one thing I had to really get used to is the lack of reading paper books. There are many bookstores but few have a large selection of English print titles. Back home in the States, I had a fairly large library of technical books…mostly Cisco Press and Sybex books on networking. My fiction reading was mostly quenched by going to a Barnes & Noble or Boarders book store…or to the Chicago Public library off of State and Congress when I lived there.
Now I have just a handful of paper books and the bookstores/libraries here are limited as to any English language books. Fortunately, we live in a digital media age where most books can be found online either for free, for a fee per-book or through a book club membership where you can “checkout” virtual books for a monthly fee.
Portable Power for USB Gadgets
I’ve seen those portable battery packs either that click into the bottom of the iPhone or that are integrated into a case. Those intrigued me but I was looking for something more “robust” that would let me charge several different devices and not just the iPod/iPhone. In addition, I didn’t want a backup battery that could charge my phone one time and then run out of juice. I never really know when the next time will be when I get to wall power so I needed something that could handle multiple charges. While in Taipei Taiwan, I found just was I was looking for. The box and manual were in Chinese but on the case it says: Portable Power. The model number is ZT-9801.
Bandwidth Testing Thailand Cellular with Cisco GIST
In my last post, I talked about my wireless provider in Thailand, AIS. AIS has a very good blanket of 2G Edge across the country…and even over the boarder into Burma, Laos and Cambodia from my experience. I’ve used the data plan for checking email and light browsing. I also have used it to upload
