Palm has a great smartphone OS. It’s too bad nobody bought one. Perhaps with the HP merger of Palm fairly far back in the review mirror, the marketing department for the Pre 2 will do a little bit better job of promoting the newest Pre with webOS 2.0.
Precentral.net has images of the new phone posted on their site. Quite honestly, it looks like the original Pre in design so nothing is new here.
On the plus side, specs of the phone are rumored to have a 1Ghz processor and 512 MB RAM. In addition, the new phone will use a glass touchscreen as opposed to the plastic screen on the older Palm Pre. These modifications bring the Flagship Palm phone to 2010 standards.
However, I must say that the hardware specifications and similar look of the phone are not too impressive. What will be interesting however is the Palm webOS 2.0 software. Palm’s mobile OS is one of the best operating systems that nobody uses. The new 2.0 update is rumored to be another large step in the right direction for the OS.
If Palm/HP want to really be a player, they need to price the Pre 2 to attract customers that have never seen the webOS before. If they can do that, they have a chance to gain just a bit more of the smartphone market share.
